Annual Baseball Field
Maintenance Checklist

adapted from BTF Field Maintenance Guide 2006

 


Spring Routine:

Perform soil tests
Perform turf maintenance activities: aerate, edge, top dress, over seed, fertilize
Perform dirt maintenance activities: correct field dirt mix, rebuild mound and home plate area, rebuild bullpens, fix warning track and remove lip build ups
Roll infield dirt, roll infield turf and sand as needed to maintain level area
Apply pre-emergent herbicides if not over seeding
Clean, paint or repair dugouts, fencing, bleacher areas and field signs as per Preseason Ball Park Audit Check Up


Fall Routine:

Perform soil tests
Aerate the field
De-thatch or verticut turf
Over-seed and top dress the field
Fertilize the field
Apply post-emergent herbicides
Complete renovations or reconstruction projects if needed


Winter Routine:

Review field maintenance plan and budget
Review upcoming field use schedule
Clean, repair or replace field maintenance equipment
Plan future renovations or reconstruction projects to be completed next year
